Bet-with-El RECAP Saturday May 18, 2013

Here is the RECAP  of the a Bet-with-El analysis of the Preakness May 18,  2013.  We went to Pimlico, Race 12, The Preakness Stakes, the 2nd leg of the Triple Crown, for our weekly Bet-with-El this time.  The GI Stakes Race was a  1 3/16 mile race, run on the dirt, for 3 year olds with a Purse of $1 million.  The weather was clear and the track was rated as fast.
We picked the #1 Horse, Orb to WIN.  Orb went off as the favorite at odds of 0.70.   Orb had a slow start coming out of the gate and trailed most of the field up to the 3/4 pole, running 6th and 7th.  There were a couple of times that the horse was boxed in and did not have enough racing room to improve on his position.  In spite of his bad start he finished 4th.  Unfortunately, he finished out of the money and the dream of breaking the Triple Crown drought this year went unanswered.
The #6 horse, Oxbow, trained by Wayne Lukas and ridden by Hall of Famer Jockey Gary Stevens, took his horse to the front and never looked back.  Oxbow ran wire to wire, setting slow fractions.  Oxbow won the race by 1 3/4 lengths at odds of 15.40.   He returned $32.80, $12.00, $6.80 for the win, place, and show respectively.
We picked the #9 Horse, Itsmyluckyday, to come in 2nd.  Ismyluckyday went off at odds of 8.50.  Itsmyluckyday stayed close to the pace and entered the stretch 2nd behind Oxbow.  Itsmyluckyday held on for 2nd, finishing IN THE MONEY.  Itsmyluckyday returned $7.80 and $5.00 for the place and show.
We picked the #8 horse, Governor Charlie, as the long shot.  Governor Charlie went off at odds of 9.40.  He came out of the gate slow and never fired, finishing 8th.
