Bet-with-El RECAP Saturday 26 July 2014

This week we went to Saratoga, Race 10, The Jim Dandy G2 Stakes race, run at 1 1/8 mile on the dirt, for three year olds, with a Purse of $600,000.  The weather was clear and the track was rated as fast.
We picked the #4 Horse, Tonalist to WIN.  As predicted this horse, being The Belmont winner, and having won 4 graded stakes races in a row in 2014, went off as the heavy favorite, at odds of 0.90.  This being his running style, Tonalist came out of the gate 5th, but made up ground and entered the stretch 2nd.  However Wicked Strong, who had drafted in 2nd position behind Legend, the #2 horse, took the lead going into the stretch.  Wicked Strong, the #7 horse was full of run and proved to be the better horse this time.  Tonalist was unable to overtake Wicked Strong in the stretch even though Tonalist responded well under strong urging. Although finishing IN THE MONEY, Tonalist had to settle for the place spot.  Tonalist returned $2.50 for the place and $2.10 for the show.
We picked Kid Cruz as the long shot.  Kid Cruz came out of the gate 4th and ran in the middle of the pack going 5 wide entering 5th into the stretch.  This is an improving horse and improved his position, but was outclassed by Wicked Strong and Tonalist and had to settle for the show spot.  Kid Cruz went off at odds of 5.70   His show returned $2.50.
