Bet-with-El RECAP Saturday 24 May 2014

This week we went to Santa Anita Park, Race 7, The Charles Whittingham Stakes, a G2 stakes race, run on the turf, at the 1 1/4 mile distance, for three years old and up, with a Purse of $200,000.  The weather was cloudy and the turf track was rated as firm.

We picked the #6 horse, Fire With Fire to WIN.  Fire With Fire came out of the gate 6th and held that position for much of the first mile.  Fire With Fire entered the stretch 2nd and was successful in overtaking the front runner, Segway (the #7 horse), by a nose at the wire.

Our horse, Fire with Fire finished IN THE MONEY, taking the G2 WIN for a nice purse earnings of $120,000.  Fire with Fire went off at odds of 7.30 and returned $16.60, $6.60, and $2.60 for the win, place, and show respectively.

The favorite Quick Casablanca, who went off at odds of 1.70, had a slow start coming out of the gate 9th, Quick Casablanca was able to make up ground, entering the stretch 3rd, but Quick Casablanca was  not able to overtake Fire With Fire and Segway.  Quick Casablanca had to settle for the show spot. With Quick Casablanca finishing 3rd, we unfortunately did  not hit the exacta.  Bright Spot ran with Segway up front and ran 1st and 2nd for the first mile, but was not able to hold on to his position and finished off the board.
