Bet-with-El RECAP Saturday 19 July 2014

This week we went to Arlington Park, Race 7, The Arlington Oaks G3 stakes race for 3 year old fillies, run at 1 1/8 mile on the dirt with a Purse of $150,000.  The weather was cloudy and the track was rated as fast.

We picked the #5 Horse, Stellaris to WIN.  Stellaris came out of the gate 5th behind by 7 1/2 lengths.  She maneuvered between horses, made up ground and entered the stretch 2nd,  behind the #9 Horse, Aurellia’s Belle by 3 1/2 lengths.  We had thought that the 6 lbs difference between Aurellias’ Belle and Stellaris and this being a route race, Stellaris would have the edge.   Stellaris was able to close the gap to a mere 3/4 lengths, but unfortunately was not able to overtake Aurellia’s Belle.  Stellaris finished IN THE MONEY, but had to settle for the place spot.  Stellaris went off at odds of 4.20 and returned $4.20 for the place and $3.40 for the show.

We predicted the #9 Horse, Aurellia’s Belle to come in 2nd.  Aurellia’s Belle went off as the favorite at odds of 1.20.  Aurellia’s Belle had a good start coming out of the gate 3rd.  She improved her position entering the stretch 1st by 3 1/2 lengths and never gave up that lead to finish IN THE MONEY and take the WIN, increasing her earnings by $85,500.  Aurellia’s Belle returned $4.40, $2.60, and $2.40 for the win, place, and show respectively.

We picked the #7 Horse, Colonel Joan as the Long Shot.   Colonel Joan came out of the gate 9th and never fired.  She finished out of the money.
