Bet-with-El RECAP Saturday 18 October 2014

This week BWE went to Mountaineer, Race 7, a Starter Allowance race for three years old and up, contested at 1 3/4 mile on the dirt, with a Purse of $21,000.  The weather was cloudy and the track was rated as muddy.

We picked the #6 Horse, Curmudgeon to WIN.  As predicted Curmudgeon went off as the favorite at odds of 1.10.  Curmudgeon came out of the gate slow, but made up ground and was 2nd at the 1 1/2 mile and 2nd entering the stretch.  Unfortunately, the #2 Horse, Practical Justice came out of the gate good and ran the race wire-to-wire, entering the stretch ahead of the field by 7 lengths and taking the win by 10 lengths.  Curmudgeon was not able to overtake Practical Justice and had to settle for the place spot.  The winner, Practical Justice went off at odds of 7.30 and returned $16.60, $5.40, and $3.80 for the win, place, and show respectively.  Curmudgeon returned $2.80 for the place and $2.20 for the show.  For those that wanted to gamble, we recommended an exacta wheel with Curmudgeon on the bottom.  A $2 exacta wheel would have cost $12.  The exacta returned $51.80.  As predicted, Sgt. Major Ross finished 3rd and returned $3.40 for the show.
