Bet-with-EL RECAP Saturday 1 March 2014

Here is the RECAP for 1 March 2014 for Bet-with-El.

This week we went to Santa Anita, Race 2, a 6 1/2 furlongs Allowance race run on the dirt for fillies and mares 4 years old and up, non-winners of 2, with a Purse of $60,000.  The weather was rainy and the track was (sealed) wet and was rated as fast.

We picked the #4 Horse, Socialbug, to WIN.  Socialbug came out of the gate good and stayed close to the pace, running 2nd to the #2 Horse, Sallyana who set the pace at very fast fractions of 21.77, 43.86, and 1.07.41.  Socialbug passed Sallyana going into the stretch to take the lead and finishing the race in winning style by 4 1/4 lengths.  As expected, the Baffert trained horse Socialbug went off as the heavy favorite at odds of 0.40 to take the win and finishing IN THE MONEY.  Her win returned $2.80, $2.20, and $2.10 for the win, place, and show respectively – still a respectable 40% return on a win bet.  Socialbug increased her earnings by $36,000 for a total purse earnings of $141,200.  This was her 3rd win in 5 starts.

We picked the #6 Horse, Caraquista as the long shot.  Caraquista had a good start and ran 4th for most of the race.  She was able to improve on that position in the stretch to finish 3rd, taking the show spot and finishing IN THE MONEY.  Caraquista went off at odds of 3.90, returning $2.40 for a show bet.  Caraquista is a heavily raced horse, this being her 4th race in 2014 alone.  She finished 3rd three times in 2014, increasing her earnings in 2014 by $21,850.
