Bet-with-El RECAP for Saturday March 23, 2013

Here is the Bet-with-El RECAP for March 23, 2013.

We went to Laurel Park, Race 2, for our weekly Bet with El this time.  The race was a 5 1/2 furlongs $5,000 claiming race on the dirt, non winners of 2, for 3 years old and up with a purse of $14,000.  The weather was clear and the track was rated as fast.

We picked the #4 horse, Storm Catlilly to PLACE.  We picked him to place because it wasn’t clear that he would break out of the gate quick enough to take the win.  As it was Storm Catlilly broke clean and came out of the gate fast.  He entered the stretch 1st by 2 1/2 lengths and never looked back to take the win by 3 lengths..  Storm Catlilly went off as the favorite at odds of 0.50.  He finished IN THE MONEY and paid $3.00, $2.40, and $2.10 for the win, place, and show respectively.

Since we picked him to place, he gave us a nice return of 20%.  The #6 horse, This Ones for Nina, who we picked for an exacta bet with the #4 horse, was not as lucky.  This Ones for Nina stumbled coming out of the gate and lost the race then and there.  As this was a sprint race, he had to have a clean break to be in contention.  Unfortunately, this was not his day and he entered the stretch 6th by 25 lengths.  When this far behind entering the stretch, it is a lost cause and jockeys will just finish the race without trying the horse any further.
