Bet-with-El RECAP 25 October 2014

This week we went to Santa Anita, Race 7, a $20,000 Optional Claimer race for California bred 3 year olds and up, contested at 6 1/2 furlongs on the dirt, with a Purse of $58,000.  The weather was clear and the track was rated as fast.
We picked the #3 horse, Eddie’s First, to win.  Eddie’s First had a good start out of the gate, coming out 2nd.  He was 1st at the half pole, but unfortunately weakened going into the stretch 3rd and finishing 5th, out of the money.
The #5 horse, Kill Shot, who we thought would go off as the favorite and we picked to come in 2nd, did indeed go off as the favorite and did place.  Kill Shot entered the stretch 1st but had to give up this lead to a fast closing Eddie’s Turn (#2), who ridden by veteran Corey Nakatani, took the win by 1 3/4 lengths.
Eddie’s Turn went off at odds of 8.70 to return $19.40, $6.20, and $5.40 for the win, place, and show respectively.  Kill Shot, ridden by veteran jockey Mike Smith, went off at odds of 1.50 and returned $3.40 to place and $3.20 to show.  The long shot, Roman Tizzy (#9) went off at odds of 27.60 took the show spot and returned $9.20.
