Belmont Park – Saturday 6 October 2018

BetwithEl Part 2 PREMIUM for Saturday, 6 October 2018.

Race Description: Belmont Park, Race 9, THE HILL PRINCE, G2 stakes race for three year olds, contested at 1 1/8 mile on the turf, with a Purse of $500,000.

Raging Bull (#3) – This three year old colt by Dark Angel did not run as a two year old. He started his racing career on 19 April and has run 5 times, winning 4 times and placing once for a purse earnings of $383,500 and a high Beyer rating of 95. He earned the 95 Beyer rating in his last race, which was a G3 stakes race at Saratoga run at the same distance and track surface as he will be running today. Raging Bull is being trained by Brown Chad, who has a win rate of 27% and his regular rider, Rosario J, who has a 17% win rate, will be back in the irons for today’s race. This colt will be stepping up in class, but we don’t expect him to have any trouble coming from behind and showing a nice closing kick in the stretch to take the win. Raging Bull will most likely go off as the favorite.

Ride a Comet (#8) – This three year old colt by Candy Ride started his racing career as a two year old, racing 4 times and breaking his maiden on 4th try. He won his maiden at the Fair Grounds in a 1 mile turf race, which earned him only a 70 Beyer rating. This colt has been improving steadily, running his last two races at the G2 stakes level, winning his last one coming from behind and showing a very strong closing kick in the stretch to take the win by 1 1/2 lengths.   Ride a Comet is being trained by Casse Mark, who has an 18% win rate. He will have a change of riders in Franco M, who has a 17% win rate. This horse ran six times this year, hitting the board 5 times, winning 4 times and showing once for a purse earnings of $200,167 and a high Beyer rating of 92. With another improvement in his Beyer rating, Ride a Comet will have no problem hitting the board, if not take the win.

Golden Brown (#6) – This three year old colt by Offlee Wild ran once as a two year old in July of 2017 after which he was turned out, presumably to let him mature a bit. He returned to race in January of 2018 and broke his maiden on his third try, winning the race on a sloppy dirt track at the 6 furlongs distance and earning only a 66 Beyer rating.   He has been steadily improving since then and raced 8 times, hitting the board 5 times, winning 3 times and placing twice for a purse earnings of $242,500 and earning him a 90 Beyer rating in a G3 stakes race at Del Mar on 14 July 2018. His last race came at Saratoga in the G3 Saranac run at the 1 1/8 mile on the turf, where he finished fifth after being brushed in the gate.   Golden Brown is being trained by McBurney Patrick who has a 17% win rate and will have jockey Rendon, J, who has a 12% win rate, and who rode him the last 4 times, in the irons for today’s race.   With a good start out of the gate we expect this horse to stay close to the pace to hit the board at decent odds.

El’s order of finish:

  1. Raging Bull (#3)
  2. Ride a Comet (#8)
  3. Golden Brown (#6)

El’s wagering strategy:

Raging Bull (#3) to win.
